Arsenal fans on Twitter have been left confused and concerned by the club’s plans to reward Matteo Guendouzi with a new contract that will see the central midfielder nearly double his current £40,000 per week wages.
The France U21 international has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Unai Emery, playing 47 times for the Gunners including 33 Premier League appearances.
Signed from Ligue 2 side Lorient in the summer of 2018, Guendouzi immediately earned starting consideration at Arsenal and has continued to remain a crucial part of Emery’s plans throughout his maiden season, leading to the plans for a huge new contract offer according to The Sun.
Guendouzi’s current deal runs until 2022, but the Gunners are hoping that a new contract would tie him down until 2023.
Despite a positive first season at the Emirates, Arsenal fans have been left stunned and confused at the club’s intention to reward a player as unproven and inexperienced as Guendouzi with a massive new contract.
